This eco “environmentally” harmonious home was designed by well known architect Renie Boyd and built by certified “green” builders Tony and Shannon Demma of Santa Cruz. The home was designed to incorporate two magnificent redwood trees (yes, by the beach!) with a footbridge stretching between the center of the second story and the separate wing (which includes a bedroom/sitting area and sleeping loft). All exterior redwood siding and trim are recycled from trees which had fallen naturally many years ago. The exterior trim is from an old local water tank. Green and eco friendly materials are used whenever possible. Glenn Carter, featured in Sunset, did his magic with mud, faux and wax finishes throughout. The master bedroom features a deep Jacuzzi tub plus a gas fireplace. When you fold back the five foot window you see the most beautiful view of stunning oak branches three feet away in the rear yard. The master bath has walls of African slate and the vanity/sink is 1700’s circa. You can also catch an ocean peek from one of the upstairs bedrooms and check the beach weather or see sailboats pass by.
The spiral staircase leading to the second story out of the living room was built from a salvaged whole red cedar tree from British Columbia. The iron and bronze railing was designed to emulate branches, gracefully framing the curve of the stairs. Relax in the cozy living room with the gorgeous jasper stone fireplace, entertaining bar and two full size sofas. The gourmet kitchen features custom alderwood cabinets, built-in pantry, sub zero refrigerator and beautiful Irish green marble countertops. There are 20 skylights, at least 60 windows and five sets of French doors. As someone once observed, it’s hard to tell whether you’re inside or outside! Radiant heat warms your toes.
This is an architectural showplace just a year old and perfect for enjoying attention to detail and amazing woodwork. The furnishings were the work of a local upscale interior designer combining beauty and uniqueness with functionality and harmony.
Some coments from our guests:
"Our stay at Tree house was wonderful! The house is as beautiful as its pictures and there were perks we never knew were there, like radiant heat and a wonderful soaking tub. We lit fires every morning and night with wood the owners provided and had scented candles burning whenever we liked. The house was a lot of fun, too - great for cooking for groups. I would definitely recommend this rental to anyone looking for a unique house with special amenities." Jessica Kraybill, Texas
"We stay in lots of places. most of them are disappointing as they just aren't as great as the pictures. But this house farexceeded our expectations (based on photos). We were delighted." Josh Stika, Utah
“Walking into this very unique and beautiful home, so in tune with the earth, trees and nature, we immediately shed our stresses. The outside world seemed to melt away as we climbed the spiral staircase made out of a whole cedar tree trunk. From the circular landing we ventured to our very separate and private bedroom sanctuary.
Our plans were to check-out a whole list of “places to go”. As it turned out, we spent most of our time here just unwinding, creating feasts in the gourmet kitchen and enjoying conversations around the huge, very custom rock fireplace. When we did venture out, it was great that both “surf” Point and a great beach were only a couple blocks away. We had four days of zen. We will be back this Fall for sure!” Penny C., Santa Barbara, Ca.
“There were so many special things I loved about the Tree House, but if I had to pick just one favorite, it would have to be that the house truly is indoor-outdoors with a view of trees everywhere. With its five sets of French doors, over twenty skylights (that open) and windows everywhere, it’s like we were outside, high in the trees, yet with the warmth and comforts of a very upscale home.” Gavin D., New York City, NY
